Polaroid’s Android camera — and the future of point-and-shoot cameras (and photography)

It was inevitable — a camera running a phone operating system.

Yep, mobile photography is now making its way into the world of typical point-and-shoot cameras. The Polaroid SC1630 “smart camera” is powered by Google’s Android operating system. Which means, of course, you’re going to be able to download photography apps to a “real camera” with a 16-megapixel sensor and an optical zoom.

This is a sign of things to come.

Photographers want photography apps, from Path to Instagram to Hipstamatic (and beyond). And they want them on their DSLRs and point-and-shoot cameras — not just on their phones/cameraphones. It’s clear this is just the beginning of a transformation of cameras, of all types, with sharing capabilities and the chance to edit and manipulate your photos right on your camera.

Which raises the question: Would Apple, perhaps, come out with a camera? If you’ve read the Steve Jobs biography, you know Jobs said he wanted to reinvent photography.

iPhoneogenic’s Mobile Photographers/Artists of 2011!

Truly honored to be listed among such wonderful artists. Here’s hoping I can again find my voice in 2012 as I’ve all but stopped editing photos over the last couple of months. I’m inspired by the creativity of several artists lately who shall remain nameless so as to keep their egos in check! [wink, wink]

iphoneogenic:

The art of mobile photography rose to new heights in 2011!

There were more exhibitions than ever. Many prints and books were sold. The community suffered the tragic loss of Nathaniel “Nacho” Cordova, whose memory will live forever in us.  There were gorgeous tributes to Nacho, including a book created by members of iPhone Art, available on blurb.  Several collectives emerged. New artists came onto the scene, challenging veterans to step it up. Through it all, many artists stayed consistent in their work and continued to push the limits of the medium. We would like to recognize those artists here.

iPhoneogenic created a list of 50 of the most promising, influential, creative, and encouraging mobile photographers/artists out there plus one honorary member, Nacho. The process of deliberating who and why a person should be on the list took a matter of four weeks. Many listed were unanimously agreed upon while others took some debating. Clicking on an individual’s name or photo will redirect you to their Flickr photostream.

*Artists are not ranked in order from the number 1 artist to the 50th rather they are in alphabetical order by first name (except for Nacho).

Moquu bills itself as “the first interactive photo-scratcher app”

Not sure what that means, exactly, but I like the look of it.

From Moquu: “The concept is simple: the app lets you take a snapshot about some fun situation, but instead of creating GIF files you can make a photo-sequence that can be scratched and dragged with your fingers… Moquu is great for creating stop motion animations, time-lapse sequences, panorama pictures, fashion photos, capturing sport events and any humorous situations — or just you, making funny faces.”

Gonna check it out right now…
